The year 2011, it seems to be a failing year for Blackberry, though it is the year that RIM has launched many new OS7 Blackberry devices like 9900, 9360, 9860 etc. And surely this includes the launch of the 1st Blackberry Tablet like the PlayBook. What do i think of these new launches this year?

Well, i would say the new OS7 devices with a touch screen like 9900, 9810, 9860 for example, are not really bad at all for Blackberry. UI experiences with a touch screen combining with a trackpad control, plus a more performance cpu like 1Ghz and above does an italian job for RIM to win many hearts from its own fans. These things has erased a feeling of waiting and frustrating (the clock spinning tick tock tick tock), enhanced UI experiences by scrolling up and down with your fingers on email, browser, and apps. While it may satisfy Blackberry fans’ appetites, does it do enough for other people to divert their heads to use Blackberry phones? …
It COULD but it was too and very LATE. . .
.

All these features have existed in iPhone, and Android phones for ages. Why waited til late 2011 for all these things? RIM is really a PAST TENSE company this year, and the expectations and its stock price shows it all.

By the way, here i am back to the Conrad Contennial Hotel, thank to RIM’s generosity, after 2 full days (7th – 8th Dec) of the Blackberry DevCon Asia in Singapore at SunTec International Convention & Exhibition Hall. And I did attend the Keynote session where RIM’s senior management officiers came up on stage and talking about the future of Blackberry. And yes, of course, the new coming Blackberry 10 OS is mentioned. It sounds exciting right? 🙂
Here are the key conclusion about the prospects and excitements of the new Blackberry 10 OS.

1) NFC embedded Blackberry devices
well, NFC – for personal uses of wireless contact: mobile payment, file transfer, contact exchange, Tap to download, E-stamp, etc . . .
.
.
.

.
.
2) BBM integration with apps
Social app is a key to drive Blackberry to be successful in a consumer market. . . This integration allows Blackberry apps to involve interactions between BBM users, for example: chat, voice message, sending pictures, sharing locations, suggesting/inviting your BBM users to download an app or even buying applications for you, and etc depending on developers’ creativity.
.
.
3) Cascades UI by TAT
will be standard UI for the new coming Blackberry 10 OS in which can be used by developers to developer their apps.

.
4) HTML5
Claimed to be an ideal choice for an alternative way to developer apps on Blackberry 10 OS, in which is compatible and can be run on Blackberry Playbook OS, OS 6 and OS 7. . . tho it’s not as powerful as the Native

.
For me the most promising things about the Blackberry 10 OS are the BBM integration and the Cascade UI by TAT. Great and easy to use UI is very important for both developers and users. It is where users interact and communicate with phones. If the Cascade UI can do the job like it’s promised, then it’s a very real good start for the Blackberry future. Second but not least, users are now like to get connected especially with their friends and family. The BBM integration will do its job to get users connected via applications. Standalone application is dying. Single player game exists but becomes less and less. It’s about time for sharing and connecting.

With all these i’m not saying that next year 2012 will be a great year for RIM. . . but it has a very good prospect, i think they have stepped onto a right path. and, with fingers-crossed, i think that they couldn’t get any worse than this year…
RIM has bet its own fortune with this new Blackberry 10 OS just like NOKIA has done with Microsoft’s Windows Phone. They both discarded their old fortunes: Symbian, Meego, and old Blackberry OS, and they both look for and to become what i describe as a FUTURE TENSE company.
Only one thing i wanna say to RIM/Blackberry is
